I would also like to tell you a little bit about how Arnoud and Gaia actually met.

Charlotte, whom you have just seen in the song, plays a role in this.

Gaia had met Charlotte because they were both counselors at an international children's camp. In April 2013, Gaia came to Amsterdam to visit Charlotte.

But Charlotte did not live alone in Amsterdam. She had flatmates...

And one of those flatmates was a high school friend of hers, Arnoud.

When Gaia and Arnoud met, they fell for each other immediately. Even though Arnoud may not have been so open to a relationship at that time, sparks immediately flew.

They went dancing at night with a group of people, here at Roest in Amsterdam. And Gaia at one point said to Charlotte, 'I think I'm going to kiss Arnoud.' And so it happened.

Charlotte saw all this happening, enjoyed it, and thought, "If Gaia doesn't her spot in my bed anymore, then I can actually invite my boyfriend!" And the fact that her sleepover spot was no longer available was the final push for Gaia, and actually made Gaia move in with Arnoud, from day one.

On the last night of the visit, Charlotte played the song A Simple Twist of Fate on the guitar, which she also played for them at the beginning. A song that meant a lot to them, and became their song.

But as intense as those first few days were, Gaia left for Italy again, with no contact information from Arnoud....

Fortunately, Arnoud asked Charlotte Gaia's details and a few weeks later they looked into each other's eyes again, in Rome. Arnoud didn't know what came over him, this actress had a motorcycle and he could jump on the back in no time.

Gaia didn't really know what came over her either, as Arnoud brought her a book about monster masks, what did that mean?

It turned out to be a matter of getting used to each other again, because the next day they were in love again and became a couple. And they never stopped being a couple. From then on they saw each other every three weeks, for a year, despite living in two different countries.

But how were they to proceed? Where were they going to live?

It all turned out to depend on an audition.

In another universe, Gaia would have been a presenter of weather and traffic in Italy for ten years now. But luckily, in this universe, Gaia didn't get this job.

She had said to herself, if I get this job, I will stay in Italy, if I don't get this job, I will go to Amsterdam, to Arnoud. We thank the audition committee very much, because without them we might not be here.

Arnoud started folding cranes at age 16. I remember it well, he was doing that at school. And cranes bring luck.

And that luck, that Arnoud has, with Gaia and with their family, I also got to witness from the sidelines for years. I regularly join them for dinner.

And that is nice. Not only because you always get good and tasty Italian food there, but also because you get to witness the love that goes around in that house.

In the conversations I have with Arnoud, about the easy and the difficult things in life, sometimes we talk about their relationship.

It is impressive with how much respect and love Arnoud then talks about Gaia and their relationship. A relationship that will no doubt last a long time.

Arnoud started his cranes on time at age 16. He found a wonderful woman who wanted to fold with him (and also turned out to be able to fold cranes much faster than he could).

And today they are getting married. Under the jubilant eye of 1,000 cranes, to celebrate their happiness with us together.
